Mission

The Department of Sociology seeks to develop a more impartial, caring, and socially just society. A society to meet basic human needs, and empowers individuals, communities, and institutions to achieve the best possible outcomes in their lives. Our Department is dedicated to educate, research, & provide services for progressive change at local, national, and global levels.

Objectives

  • To create in students the “Sociological imagination”, which signifies the ability to see their lives, concerns, problems and hopes as entwined within the larger social and historical context in which they live.
  • To develop in students the skill to think critically and creatively.
  • To make their vision broader to envisage and encompass the existing social framework and enable them to apply their theoretical knowledge to the solution of the social problems around them.
  • To educate and train them to discern and otherwise utilize the agents of change and to prevent and modify their ill-consequences for the benefit of the larger social setup.
  • To develop and enhance their professional repertoire so as to maintain their excellent future operations in the discipline.
  • To train learners enough to cope with any altering situation in life.

Scope of Sociology


It is well established now that after completion of Sociology degree the graduates participate in nation-building activities. The graduates of Sociology are actively involved in Developmental activities such as Social Mobilization, Rural Development, Population Planning, Rural Health Schemes, and Community Development. The training imparted in the Department enables the students to contribute effectively to the development of the country. Moreover, different governmental and non-governmental departments of the country periodically invite applications from the graduates for the positions of Social Welfare Officers, Nutrition Supervisors as well as Lecturers for appointments across the country.

Department of Sociology, University of Chakwal offers four years BS (Hons) Program in Sociology, benchmarked with the top-class universities of the world. Department of Sociology has well experienced, committed, and highly trained faculty members. They are committed to generating a conducive study and research environment for the students.

Dr. Malik Muhammad Sohail

Chairman / Assistant Professor

PhD Sociology From University of Sargodha, Pakistan

Dr. Malik Muhammad Sohail is an Assistant Professor of Sociology, Head of Department and Deputy Director QEC, university of Chakwal. He earned his PhD from the University of Sargodha and completed a doctoral fellowship at Harvard University, USA.

He is non-resident faculty scholar at the Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health at Duke University, USA.

He is Director of Center for Religion, Science and Social Wellbeing.

His research interests include medical sociology, positive psychology, wellbeing, spiritual needs during illness, and religious/spiritual coping and health. He has published several research papers in prestigious national and international journals.

Mr. Muhammad Masood

Assistant Professor

M.Phil Sociology From University of Gujrat Pakistan

Mr. Muhammad Masood is working as Assistant Professor of Sociology, at Department of Sociology, College of Arts and Sciences University of Chakwal. He has the honor to initiate the department of sociology. He has more than 17 years of teaching and administrative experience in Higher Education Department. He remained the chairperson of sociology department from 2017 to 2022. He had published his research work in diverse national and international journal on diverse social issues.

He is supervising a trust that offer scholarships to deserving and talented students. He also had a huge experience with highly reputed national and international NGOS. He has the honor to arrange seminar on diverse social issues. Under his leadership, the department students arranged four educational and recreational tours to diverse historical and industrial sites.

Mr. Nasir Mehmood Khan

Lecturer

M.Phil Sociology Gold Medalist PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi Pakistan

Mr. Nasir Mehmood Khan is Lecturer of Sociology at Department of Sociology, University of Chakwal and member of QEC, Migration Rules Committee, Incharge Sports and departmental controller examination.

He took his M.Phil in Sociology in 2018 from PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi Pakistan. Previously, he was serving in School Education Department. He also served as Lead Trainer at Punjab Examination Commission and Qaed-E-Azam Academy for Educational Development Punjab.

His research takes a demographic approach toward investigating how patterns of social inequality are produced and reproduced. His work has focused on the relationships among socioeconomic inequality, mobility, and insecurity; the historical evolution of gender inequalities in the family and economy; CSR and rural development, political sociology, deviance and public health. He has published several research papers in prestigious national and international journals.

His teaching is in the area of social stratification, gender studies, sociological theory, family and marriage, quantitative research, migration, political sociology, demography and sociology of development.

Distinctions:

Gold Medalist in M. Phil Sociology 2018.

Winner of National Youth Award 2021.
